About Department
The Department of Biotechnology offers BE in Biotechnology. The department has well qualified, experienced, trained and committed faculty to provide quality education. The Department has adequate infrastructure and being funded by department of Biotechnology, Govt of India under the DBT- STAR College scheme for better hands on learning experience for the students. Many faculties pursue research in several areas of biotechnology with externally funded research grants from DST, Govt of India , DBT and VGST, govt. of Karnataka.
Department Profile
Department of Biotechnology started in the year 2002 with an intake of 30 students for the undergraduate programme. The intake was increased to 40 seats in 2007, to 60 in the year 2018. UG programme of the Department is accredited by NBA tier1 of Washington Accord for 6 years with validity up to June 2028. The department has 10 faculty members with considerable teaching & research experience and being supported by well-trained supporting staff. Research Centre of the department is well equipped with high end equipment. Thrust areas of research are Cancer research, natural products and plant tissue culture. Currently, there are five recognized faculty from VTU and Mangaluru University. Six Ph.D scholars are pursuing research from the department. The department has MOUs with Natural remedies Pvt limited,Swakit Biotech private limited, Bangalore, India,Apratima Bisolutions private limited and Bangalore Bio innovation center (BBC) which has many startup companies being incubated in its premises.
