The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has made progressive strides during the last four decades in all spheres of education and research with its streamlined methodology. The department strives to equip students to be life-long learners, to develop technical, analytical and critical skill necessary to meet the real world developmental needs and contribute to social betterment. The Department offers a comprehensive education, thereby preparing the students to emphasize the role of engineers to find innovative solutions to some of the developmental challenges through applied research. Graduates are better prepared to meet the needs of industry, government and their communities. The practical and theoretical experiences and our commitment to academic and ethical excellence cultivate outstanding Electronics engineers who are highly sought after for both higher education and employment. The alumni of the department are well placed in academia, NGOs, government, private sector. In addition to UG and three PG programmes, the department also provides unique opportunities for aspiring doctoral students.
We provide a very informal atmosphere between faculty and students. ECE department has always been known for creating an ambience where scholarship flourishes. Faculty members of our department are not only engaged in cutting edge technology research but are also very passionate about teaching. The department faculty are involved in a number of research projects independently and in collaboration with industry and are part of international research networks and partnerships. As BMS College of Engineering grows in stature and quality, our department aspires to considerably expand its research and teaching activities in new directions and welcome all initiatives and support which would help us to work towards that goal.
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) of BMSCE was established in 1971 with an initial intake of 60 students to the Under Graduate (UG) program and enhanced to an intake of 120 students from 1983 and 180 students from 2018. The department offers three Postgraduate Programmes “Electronics” from 1986, “Digital Communication Engineering” from 1996 with an intake of 18 students and “VLSI Design & Embedded Systems” from 2014 with an intake of 24 students. The department is also a recognized Research Centre (RC) by VTU from 2002 and is a recognized Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) center by the AICTE from 2011. With these activities on-hand, the overall objective of the department is to contribute significantly, to the realization of the Vision of BMSCE. The department has formalized this objective in terms of its own Program Vision and Mission which are in-line with the Vision and Mission of the college.
